Merlin has it all – not the least of which is the ‘magic’ secret he can never share with his best friend.

But Morgan, 23, merely laughs at the suggestion his young wizard has the hots for the Prince of Camelot.

What was your first impression when arriving at the castle?
During the hearings, the team showed us pictures of it, but I immediately refused to see them. I knew it was going to turn on location and I heard how fantastic it was, but I’ve seen absolutely nothing before. On leaving the Eurostar, we got on a bus and we arrived here by driving up a hill. And arriving at the summit, the castle emerged in the sunset. My jaw fell to the ground and I thought by myself, “What is that thing? This helps enormously to do your job, when you don’t have to imagine. This creates an ideal environment for us. We are very fortunate.

Do you sleep in the castle?
I asked “Give me a room for the night”, but unfortunately we have no right to stay on site. I think it might be fun to spend time here, but we actually lodge in a hotel a little further. I’m sure that if we had the right, some of us would be happy to do so, without doubt Richard and Anthony. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Is the castle magical? Do strange things happen?
Strange things, no, apart from a group of people who have moved to real fighters from the Middle Ages. Since the beginning of filming, more and more people come to us, therefore, for them it must seem strange. But for us who come here often and are accustomed to it, it’s perfectly normal.

American networks have made a habit of swiping and remaking British programs, but the latest import from across the pond will be 100 percent authentic. Merlin (premieres Sunday, 8 pm/ET, NBC), loosely based on the Arthurian legends of the famed sorcerer, arrives stateside as the first British drama to air on a U.S. network — un-retouched, un-recast — since The New Avengers more than 30 years ago. 

“I think we probably played a fast one on NBC!” star Bradley James tells TVGuide.com. “It’s probably quite difficult to recast this one and remake it in an American way. Hopefully it goes over well and it will be worth NBC’s while. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

James plays Prince Arthur on the fantasy, sword-fighting series. No, that’s not a typo. It’s Prince Arthur, not King.
